What is the new name for GE HealthCare?

GE Unveils New Brand Names For Three Planned Future Public Companies Last fall, GE announced plans to become three independent and publicly traded businesses focusing on healthcare, energy, and aviation. Today the company unveiled their names. Channeling its 130 years of innovation, all three — each a leader in its industry — will retain the familiar GE name and the company’s famous Monogram logo, which dates back to Thomas Edison.

But their new names also reflect a new beginning. GE’s healthcare business will become GE HealthCare, and GE’s existing portfolio of energy businesses, including Renewable Energy, Power, Digital, and Energy Financial Services, will sit together under the brand name GE Vernova. GE Aerospace will be the name of GE’s aviation business.H.

Lawrence Culp Jr., chairman and CEO of GE, and CEO of GE Aerospace, said, “Today marks a key milestone in GE’s plan to become three independent, laser-focused companies. Leveraging GE’s multi-billion-dollar global brand gives us a competitive advantage in our end markets, allowing these businesses to win in the future. Where Is Ge Healthcare Headquarters Address There’s a good reason. GE’s healthcare technology helps clinicians carry out more than 2 billion patient exams per year; its energy systems generate one-third of the world’s electricity; and a plane powered by engineering from GE and its partners takes off every two seconds somewhere in the world.

GE HealthCare is set to be the first to leave the GE fold, in early 2023. It will focus on precision health to improve patient outcomes and address critical patient and clinical challenges. Building on more than 100 years of innovation, the GE HealthCare name and Monogram “will serve as an enduring badge of quality, safety, trust, and innovation,” GE said in a press release.

The color of GE HealthCare will be “compassion purple,” to “reflect more humanity and warmth and achieve greater distinction,” GE said. Where Is Ge Healthcare Headquarters Address In early 2024, GE plans to take public its portfolio of energy businesses as GE Vernova. This energy portfolio, which includes gas turbines, onshore and offshore wind turbines, grid technology, and software, is already helping customers around the world decarbonize and bring online more reliable, affordable, and sustainable electricity. Where Is Ge Healthcare Headquarters Address Following the planned spin-offs, GE will focus on aviation. GE said that the name for the business, GE Aerospace, sets forth “a confident vision to compete and advance in the field of aerospace and defense for future generations.” The GE Monogram, new name, and new “atmosphere blue” brand color — representing the upper limits of the atmosphere —maintain the brand’s strong standing in the aviation sector. Following the planned separations, GE Aerospace would also own the GE trademark and would provide long-term licenses to the other companies.Linda Boff, GE’s chief marketing officer, said that through “thousands of conversations” with customers and other stakeholders, “it became clear that the GE name and our century-plus-old Monogram represent a legacy of innovation, symbol of trust by global customers, pride for our team, and a talent magnet for future leaders.”Said Boff: “We’re proud these future businesses will be able to build on GE’s DNA of innovation.”

Where did GE move its headquarters?

General Electric picks smaller digs for its new headquarters The final chapter of what was once one of the world’s biggest industrial conglomerates will likely be written from a single floor in a downtown Boston office tower, as General Electric pares back its headquarters yet again in anticipation of its corporate breakup.

  1. GE informed employees in Boston on Tuesday the company will move to the 37th floor of One Financial Center, a 46-story tower across Atlantic Avenue from South Station and a relatively short walk across Fort Point Channel from the current headquarters.
  2. GE will occupy nearly 30,000 square feet at One Financial.

Although the location had not yet been made public, the move didn’t come as a surprise to local employees: GE announced in October that it was going to leave its roughly 100,000-square-foot brick offices at 5 Necco St. it has occupied for the past three years.

It’s unclear how many employees are making the latest move. But fewer than 200 employees are based at the headquarters now, and many have been largely working remotely or in hybrid roles since the COVID-19 pandemic began. The GE of today is quite different from the GE that announced its move from Connecticut to Boston amid much fanfare in 2016.

At the time, GE employed more than 300,000 people around the world and was among the biggest companies in the Fortune 500 rankings. But soon after the Boston move, major financial problems came to light in GE’s power business and its long-term care insurance portfolio, among other issues.

  • Larry Culp, GE’s first chief executive from outside the company, was brought in to right the ship in the fall of 2018.
  • Culp scrapped a planned headquarters expansion that was to include a new 12-story tower along Fort Point Channel.
  • GE also reimbursed the state of Massachusetts for $87 million in incentives that had been used to subsidize the renovations at 5 Necco St.

(Eli Lilly later reached a deal to occupy the new 12-story building.) Then COVID-19 hammered the company’s cash cow, its jet-engine business. After a series of divestitures, Culp and his leadership team eventually decided it would be best for shareholders to split what remained of GE into three separate publicly traded companies: GE HealthCare; GE Aerospace; and GE Vernova, the new name for its combined energy-related businesses.

  1. The split-up, which will be complete early next year when GE Vernova leaves, essentially means a corporate headquarters will no longer be necessary beyond the top offices used by each of the three businesses.
  2. GE HealthCare, which split off last month, is based in Chicago.
  3. GE Vernova recently leased a new corporate office in Cambridge.

GE Aerospace will remain based in the Cincinnati area. Once these spinoffs are complete, each company will still be quite large in its own right, employing tens of thousands of people apiece. GE Aerospace reported $26 billion in revenue last year, while GE Vernova’s businesses topped $29 billion and GE HealthCare, $18.5 billion.

The terms of GE’s lease at One Financial were not disclosed, and it’s unclear how long GE will need office space there. GE officials have said they will remain based within the city of Boston at least until the GE Vernova spinoff is complete early next year. With a 12-year lease signed on the Necco Street space in 2019, it is also not clear whether GE plans to return the space to its landlords — Alexandria Real Estate Equities and National Development — or to sublease to another tenant.

All a GE spokesperson would say about the pending move to One Financial is that the “winding down physical office space in Boston and other corporate sites is the expected next step as part of our planned separation into three independent, industry-leading companies.” Jon Chesto can be reached at,

Why did GE move to Boston?

Part of the reason General Electric Co. moved its headquarters to Boston from Connecticut was because its leadership was miffed about the attendee list at a party in Hartford, as the authors of a new book on the company’s downfall tell it. The book — “Lights Out: Pride, Delusion, and The Fall of General Electric,” by Wall Street Journal reporters Thomas Gryta and Ted Mann — tells the tale of GE’s fall from corporate America’s upper echelon.

The authors put much of the blame on former CEO Jeff Immelt and his perceived unwillingness to acknowledge major problems inside the company, with his underlings using aggressive accounting maneuvers to make GE’s financial performance appear more solid to outsiders, according to the book. As the authors put it at the end of one chapter: “There was no market for hard truths or bad news.

Not as far as the guy at the top was concerned.” The book, which is out this month, spans more than half a century, from legendary CEO Jack Welch’s start at GE in the 1960s to Larry Culp’s arrival in 2018 as the first outsider ever to run the company.

  • Given the scope of the story and its subject, GE’s move to Boston merits a scant two pages, but it did score a chapter title: “The Candy Factory,” a reference to the GE HQ’s former life as a facility for the candy maker NECCO.
  • The authors report that by the time then-Chief Financial Officer Jeff Bornstein and other executives were threatening to move the headquarters out of Connecticut, the company’s departure was already a “fait accompli.” Bornstein thought of Fairfield as “a morgue,” according to the book, and executives wanted the hustle and bustle of a city.

GE’s relationship with Connecticut officials had soured in part because the state’s congressional representatives worked with GE rival Pratt & Whitney to preserve its role as the exclusive supplier of a U.S. jet fighter engine, according to “Lights Out.” GE had wanted to build the engines as well, but Connecticut politicians sided with Pratt, considering it made the engines in big Connecticut factories while GE’s aviation operations are based elsewhere, the book said.

  1. The “final straw,” according to the book, came when Connecticut lawmakers hosted an event in East Hartford to celebrate Pratt’s victory that newly elected Gov.
  2. Dan Malloy decided to attend.
  3. The book describes that decision’s significance: “That, a GE lobbyist said, sealed (Malloy’s) fate.
  4. Some things the company did not forgive.” Gryta and Mann don’t delve into why GE chose Boston over other contenders like New York, other than to say executives “boasted to investors” that the $145 million in incentives they received meant the move “ultimately cost the company nothing.” The authors, perhaps feeling liberated from the restrictions of writing for a newspaper, don’t hesitate to take some shots.

GE’s designs for a glass tower on Fort Point Channel, which have since been scrapped, were “terribly ugly.” The move to Boston was met with “expected swooning by the local press, bedazzled by one of the world’s biggest companies seeming to just fall into their laps,” Gryta and Mann write.

(No word on whether GE staffers believe Boston media remains in a state of bedazzled swooning.) Boston is the setting for several scenes in the book outside of the headquarters. A meeting between Bornstein and an “increasingly impatient” activist investor in 2016 took place at Bornstein’s six-level, $13 million Back Bay townhouse.

The book also catalogues Immelt’s changing whereabouts. In the few months Immelt was GE’s chairman but no longer chief executive, the company booted him and his office to a WeWork space used by a subsidiary in the city, presumably a reference to GE Current’s WeWork space across from South Station.

  • When he later joined athenahealth, he landed in a “redeveloped old arsenal that buzzed with tech companies” that was “sunny and modern, the antithesis of his old Fairfield bunker.” The change over the course of the book is remarkable.
  • GE transforms from the company that once had a bigger market cap than the next six largest Massachusetts-based public companies, combined, to one that is now No.7 on that same list.

The days of demanding a helipad in Boston for its executives are long gone. At book’s end, the narrative places Bornstein, the executive who reportedly found Connecticut a “morgue,” back in the Nutmeg State making venture investments, and Flannery on a six-week road trip with his wife after being forced out as CEO.

What are the three companies of GE?

GE Unveils Brand Names for Three Planned Future Public Companies GE in July announced the brand names of the future companies it will create through its planned separation into three global, investment-grade public companies focused on the growth sectors of healthcare, energy, and aviation.

  • GE’s existing energy portfolio of businesses, including Renewable Energy, Power, Digital, and Energy Financial Services, will sit together under the brand name GE Vernova.
  • GE Aerospace will be the name of GE’s aviation business.
  • All three planned companies will continue to benefit from GE’s heritage and global brand valued at nearly $20 billion.

GE HealthCare will be the name of GE’s healthcare business. “I’m proud to be here representing more than 70,000 colleagues worldwide as the CEO of GE Vernova, our portfolio of energy businesses,” said Scott Strazik, GE Vernova CEO. “I am also here as a global citizen, as someone who wants a better environment for the next generation, and someone who has spent my career working to help deliver innovative solutions across the aviation and power industries.” In early 2024, GE plans to execute the tax-free spin-off of, GE’s portfolio of energy businesses, which together with its customers provides one-third of the world’s electricity and is focused on accelerating the path to reliable, affordable, and sustainable energy.

The new name is a combination of “ver,” derived from “verde” and “verdant” to signal the greens and blues of the Earth, and “nova,” from the Latin “novus,” or “new,” reflecting a new and innovative era of lower carbon energy that GE Vernova will help deliver. These attributes also are reflected in GE Vernova’s new “evergreen” brand color.

With an installed base of more than 7,000 gas turbines and 400 GW of renewable energy equipment, GE Vernova’s Monogram will serve as a reminder of the company’s lasting commitments to deliver quality, partnership, and ingenuity to its customers. : GE Unveils Brand Names for Three Planned Future Public Companies

Why is GE splitting into 3 companies?

Once the most valuable company in the world, GE is making dramatic moves to survive General Electric (GE), the iconic American corporation that says it brings good things to life, announced in November that it is splitting into three public companies. The firm hopes to focus and simplify its business while reducing its debt. One of the three new companies will focus on aviation, another on health care, and the third on energy. GE plans to spin off its health care division, which makes hospital equipment, in early 2023. The following year, it intends to combine its power units and renewable energy unit, which makes turbines for power plants and wind farms, leaving only the aviation business. The firm will then focus on making and servicing jet engines. Existing GE shareholders will get stakes in each of the new public companies. This is certainly a dramatic move for the 129-year-old industrial conglomerate. The company started in 1892, after the company, which was of course founded by Thomas Edison, inventor of the light bulb, merged with its rival manufacturing company Thomson-Houston Co. to become General Electric, as it is known today. A few years later the company became one of only 12 companies listed on the newly formed Dow Jones Industrial Average. During the 1980s and 90s, the firm was run for 20 years by the larger than life Jack Welch. He transformed the manufacturer into a conglomerate, buying up companies, including RCA, owner of the NBC TV network. At its height, under Welch, GE had expanded into the financial sector and was making everything from refrigerators and plane engines to medical equipment and, of course, light bulbs. It became the most valuable company in the world. But GE’s problems didn’t come out of the blue. There were many factors involved in its demise. One was Welch’s focus on GE Capital, the firm’s financial services arm. In 2000, the lion’s share of GE’s profitability and almost half its revenue came from GE Capital. During Welch’s tenure, it became far larger and more successful than GE’s other business units. At its height, GE Capital was the seventh-largest US financial institution. GE Capital enabled the company to smooth over its quarterly earnings report and keep Wall Street happy. GE Capital moved into retail banking, private label credit cards, brokerage services, home loans, mortgage-backed securities, and insurance. It had also become the world’s largest lessor of cars, equipment, and ship containers, and the biggest private mortgage insurer. In effect, GE, a household name and established global brand, was more of a financial services company than an industrial manufacturing company making stuff the economy needs. This finance arm was a major factor in GE’s demise. In some ways, GE Capital was the tail wagging the dog. All hell broke loose when the financial crisis hit in 2008, and GE barely survived, as the crisis revealed it to be overstretched. Despite GE’s reputation for management excellence, the firm was overly dependent on its finance business, which melted under the heat of the excessive risks it had taken during a period of low interest rates and a long bull market. With GE struggling to meet is financial commitments, Warren Buffet’s Berkshire Hathaway, Inc. famously stepped in and invested $3 billion. The American taxpayer guaranteed tens of billions in debt. The U.S. government designated GE Capital a systemically important financial institution, meaning that it had the potential to wreck the economy if it were to collapse (too big to fail). So much for the myth that Jack Welch was the greatest manager of the 20th century, elevating management to a kind of science, and for the belief that great management can work miracles. GE was supposedly the textbook case of a corporation creating synergy and value across various companies around the world. Soon, you will barely be able to recognize it. Joseph M. Giglio is a professor of strategic management at Northeastern University’s D’Amore-McKim School of Business. : Once the most valuable company in the world, GE is making dramatic moves to survive

Why are people leaving Boston?

For the third year in a row, Massachusetts was named among the top 10 “most moved from” states in the country, according to a moving company’s annual study. Results gathered by United Van Lines in its 46th annual National Movers Study placed the Commonwealth seventh on the list, with 56.6% of respondents moving out while new residents total at 43.4%.

United Van Lines offers a breakdown of why respondents moved in or out of state. Most people moved out of state because of family, jobs and retirement. “Key factors like retirement, wanting to be closer to family and lifestyle changes influenced by the pandemic along with current housing prices drove moving patterns in 2022,” economist University of California, Los Angeles professor Michael A.

Stoll said in a statement about the study results. Most respondents moving out of state were between the ages of 55 and 64 at 29.47%, according to the study. More seniors (30.01%) and people between 18 and 34 (25.63%) were noted to be moving inbound. Massachusetts residents making $150,000 or more made up the majority of residents moving in (55.08%) and out (46.36%) of the state.

  1. Previous studies by United Van Lines placed Massachusetts eighth in 2020 and seventh in 2021 out of the top 10 states people are moving from.
  2. New Jersey, Illinois, New York, Michigan, Wyoming and Pennsylvania made up the top six in 2022, while Nebraska, Louisiana and California fill the eighth, ninth and tenth spots of states residents are moving out of.

Here’s a full breakdown of why residents are moving out or moving into Massachusetts. United Van Lines clarified that percentages pertaining to demographic data may not total 100%, as respondents with the ability to opt out of answering survey questions and/or select more than one survey response per question.

General Electric is splitting itself into three public companies that concentrate on aviation, health care and energy. If you like what you read and want it in your inbox, sign up here, The Celtics picked up where they left off last night. (Unfortunately for me, so did the Lakers.) Here’s where we’re picking up on this crisp morning: Six years ago, General Electric envisioned a glassy, 12-story campus on the banks of Fort Point Channel as its headquarters.

Yesterday, the company told its Boston workers that they’re moving out. According to a GE spokesman, the company is winding down its physical space in Boston and plans to find a smaller office in the city early next year. It’s a conspicuous end to a move that began with lots of fanfare and tax incentives — not to mention the former mayor in a big, Adele-inspired fur coat,

GE says it plans to keep its HQ in Boston, but the 100,000-square-foot Seaport property was more than it ever ended up needing. While they had planned to bring 800 jobs to the new HQ, “fewer than 200 people are based there now and many only come in on a part-time basis,” according to The Boston Globe,

It’s unclear how many people GE plans to keep at the new location. The big picture: A lot has changed for GE since it announced its plan in 2016 to move its headquarters from Connecticut to Boston — not much of it good. As Planet Money explains here, the iconic company overextended itself during the previous decades, made risky moves and never really recovered from the financial crisis.

Last year, GE announced a plan to split itself into three different companies focused on aviation, healthcare and energy. The local angle: GE said in 2019 that it would scale back its Boston HQ plans and reimburse the state for its investments in the property. (It also canceled its tax incentive deal with the city).

What’s next: The company has been emphasizing a “lean” business plan a lot lately. The Boston news also coincided with announcements that GE will sell its longtime training campus in New York, as well as downsize corporate offices in Connecticut and New York City.

  1. Public schools in Haverhill will be closed yet again today, as the district’s teachers continue to strike for higher pay and smaller class sizes.
  2. The teachers union is facing an increasing risk of financial fines for the work stoppage, as it enters its third day.
  3. That’s because public-sector worker strikes are illegal under state law.

WBUR’s Max Larkin reports that school and state officials have secured a court injunction against the strike and are asking a judge to fine the union $50,000 for each day the strike goes on. Superior Judge Joseph Lang has yet to impose fines, but has asked the union to take steps to comply with his order by this morning.

The two sides were reportedly close to a deal Tuesday night, but school officials said that negotiations ultimately stalled out. You’ll be able to ride the Blue Lin e late into the evening for the rest of the week after all. MBTA officials announced yesterday that they’re postponing the rest of the planned Blue Line mini-closure this week, after just one night of the late-night service suspension.

Why? Well, the first night didn’t go great. According to an MBTA spokeswoman, shuttle buses weren’t able to run consistent service Monday night due to detours and lane closures from simultaneous road work happening on I-93 and the Sumner and Callahan tunnels: “This resulted in a level of service that MBTA staff felt was inadequate for our riders,” the T’s Lisa Battiston told me.

According to Battiston, the MBTA is working with MassDOT to find new dates — when there isn’t other road work on I-93 and the two East Boston tunnels — for the Blue Line diversion.P.S.— Come meet World Cup champion Briana Scurry at WBUR CitySpace tonight ! She’ll joining On Point host Meghna Chakrabarti for a discussion about about her career and the impact of head injuries.

Chakrabarti will also talk to researchers from Boston University’s CTE Center about their recent work on the types of hits that have the most long-term consequences for athletes. Both in-person and virtual tickets are free !

GE’s CEO, Larry Culp Jr. announced split into three companies. Lori Van Buren/Times Union SCHENECTADY – When General Electric Co. spins off its energy businesses next year into a separate company called GE Vernova, the seat of power will be leaving Schenectady, heading east toward Boston.

  • Back in December, GE quietly revealed it had chosen Cambridge, Mass.
  • For the future headquarters for GE Vernova, a spin-off from GE that is being created through the merger of GE’s two energy businesses, GE Power and GE Renewable Energy, with GE Digital, GE’s artificial intelligence and industrial software unit.

“As we plan for our next chapter, Cambridge offers a dynamic environment, steeped in the education, talent, and innovation that will be core components of our work alongside customers to decarbonize power generation and lead the energy transition,” sadi Scott Strazik, GE Power’s current CEO who will lead GE Vernova when it launches in 2024 as a separate company.

The new headquarters will be located in Cambridge’s hip Kendall Square neighborhood near MIT and home to hordes of tech companies and their workers. The building that was chosen is a 49,000-square foot 19th century brick building with large windows and exposed wooden beams that was renovated in the 1980s.

The offices will house up to 200 workers. Although the headquarters move is largely ministerial in nature, the roughly 2,500 or so GE employees currently working in Schenectady and in Niskayuna, where GE has its corporate research lab, will remain in place.

“We have been assured by company officials that there will not be any negative impact on Schenectady County operations as a result of this leased office location,” said Ray Gillen, chair of the Schenectady County Metroplex Development Authority, the county’s economic development agency. “Given GE’s focus on lean operations, we expect the company’s continued focus will be on value-added operations in Schenectady and Niskayuna and other large manufacturing and research facilities around the world.” In fact, GE stressed at the time of the December announcement that the current GE Power sites – including Schenectady – were critical “epicenters of manufacturing and business activities” for GE Vernova.

GE’s largest labor union, the IUE-CWA, has been critical of the headquarters move to Cambridge and also of company CEO Larry Culp Jr., who devised the plan to break up GE into three separate companies in hopes of unlocking the true value of GE’s various businesses in the aerospace, health care and energy sectors.

  • The IUE-CWA, which represents about 800 blue collar laborers in Schenectady who make steam turbines and generators used in power plants, is preparing to begin contract negotiations with GE.
  • The current labor deal ends this summer, and GE would likely want to have a new contract in place before launching GE Vernova in 2024.

“GE’s relocation of its GE Vernova headquarters to Cambridge and away from its historic Schenectady home is part of a long list of changes connected with the company’s three-way split intended to benefit Wall Street and fails to take into account the workers and communities it affects,” IUE-CWA President Carl Kennebrew said in a statement.

Officials with IUE-CWA Local 301 in Schenectady could not immediately be reached for comment. GE is currently hiring in Schenectady as GE Vernova seeks to capitalize on government policies and mandates to curb greenhouse gases and reduce reliance on fossil fuel energy sources in favor of zero emissions generation from wind, solar, hydro and nuclear power.

While GE Vernova will still make turbines used in gas power plants, it is also making a major push into the offshore wind market with plans to make wind turbine blades and other components here in the Capital Region. Although GE Power has substantial operations in Greenville, S.C.

and Atlanta, Ga., GE has historically considered Schenectady as its headquarters dating back to 1886 when Thomas Edison moved Edison Machine Works, a precursor to GE, to the city. Strazik grew up in Binghamton and attended Cornell and Columbia, although his two-decade career at GE has included stops across the country.

He travels frequently and has a home near Saratoga Lake. The decision on the new headquarters means that Strazik will eventually move his office from Schenectady to Cambridge, although GE has said the move will not involve any job losses or layoffs in Schenectady.

GE remains deeply committed to Schenectady and the Capital Region, recently announcing an $11 million investment in our downtown Schenectady campus for capacity, facility maintenance, and equipment and tools management,” a GE spokesman said in a statement to the Times Union. “We’ve also hired nearly 100 employees in our hourly workforce in the last year and we are continuing to hire.

Niskayuna is also home to GE Research, which will be the home for GE Vernova’s research and development team.” : Seat of power at GE Vernova moving out of New York
