Bill Glass spent five years at Kansas University, leaving just shy of a journalism degree. Bill Glass says he chose journalism because he found a connection between it and his passion for improvised comedy. According to Glass, ESPN was a type of comedic sports broadcaster in the early 1990s.
Glass said he enjoyed being the class clown and considered the potential that he might enjoy being an ESPN writer. ESPN never materialized, but a stage stint with Chicago’s Second City comedy company led to constant employment in commercials and other comedies. But it’s his performance in the Progressive ad series for which the recently-turned-50-year old is enjoying probably his biggest success.
As for whether he would follow in the footsteps of his parents when it comes to his two kids’ futures, he says he is fine to let them pursue their own interests for the time being. Bill Glass says that If kids come to him and inquire about college, he’ll talk it through with them.
