Individuals who currently reside in the United States and have obtained both their undergraduate degree in pharmacy as well as their pharmacy license from a recognized school of pharmacy located outside of the United States, the District of Columbia, or Puerto Rico are considered to be international pharmacists. – One of two paths is open to international pharmacists interested in pursuing a license to work as a pharmacist in the United States:

  1. Achieving a passing score on the Foreign Pharmacy Graduate Equivalency Examination® (FPGEC) and meeting all of the criteria set out by the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy.
  2. Having finished and graduated with honors from a Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) program offered by a school or college of pharmacy in the United States

Regardless matter how much or how little experience they have, all of the international pharmacists will start off in the first year. There are no options for financial assistance that are open to overseas pharmacists. Additionally, the need for pharmacists varies greatly depending on the location of the pharmacy. As a consequence of this, the School of Pharmacy is unable to provide assurances that its overseas graduates will get work in the United States after they have completed their studies there.

Every candidate is needed to have attended a college or university in the United States that is regionally or nationally recognized for a minimum of one semester (12 credits). It is highly recommended by the School that prospective students become knowledgeable with the policies and procedures of the Immigration and Naturalization Service.

In addition, the School advises prospective students to begin the admissions process at least one year before the application deadline and to be financially prepared to cover all costs associated with attending the institution.   • An up-to-date résumé or CV
  • A photocopy of the license to operate your pharmacy

Send the following materials to the following address:

  • A declaration of financial stability that affirms that you will be able to meet the program’s typical annual costs and that you are eligible to enroll in the PharmD program.
  • Official copies of any transcripts you earned throughout your time in college and at the pharmacy school you attended. Evaluation of foreign transcripts must be completed by a provider that is authorized to review transcripts.
  • Send a check or money order for the total amount of $160 (the application price for a foreign pharmacist is $105.00, and there is a supplementary charge of $55.00). It is imperative that the University of Maryland be listed as the recipient of the cheque or money order.

Additional items should be submitted:

  • It is highly advised that you take the PCAT exam. Please send in your scores from the PCAT using the following ID code: 160: University of Maryland — Intrl Pharmacist.
  • The TOEFL exam is suggested but not needed. If overseas applicants have already tested, the School of Pharmacy suggests that they send their scores to PharmCAS so that they can be considered for admission. Institution Code 5848, Department 47 is the TOEFL code that should be entered for the PharmD program.
  • A letter of recommendation from a professional reference (either from employment or education) should be sent to Patrice. sharp@rx. umass.edu.
  • Complete the Supplemental Application that may be found online. Enter the code INTLPHARM as your PharmCAS Identification Number on the application, and enter the date you finish filling out the application as the PharmCAS Application Completion Date.
