The Duke Compounding Pharmacy, Perioperative Pharmacy Services, and Pharmacy Procurement, Repackaging, and Distribution are the three different operational departments that make up Central Pharmacy Services. These divisions are each responsible for their own unique tasks.
- The Compounding Pharmacy at Duke University manufactures Compounded Sterile Preparations (CSPs) in accordance with the compounding standards established by the United States Pharmacopeia – National Formulary.
- In addition, Duke Compounding Pharmacy helps the organization fulfill its objective of promoting patient safety by compounding drugs in the most convenient and ready-to-use prescription packaging whenever it is feasible to do so.
The preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative patients are served by the Perioperative Pharmacy, which offers highly specialized clinical and technical pharmacy services to improve the results of surgical procedures. They contribute to the achievement of this objective by working in tandem with surgeons, anesthesiologists, nurse anesthetists, nurses, and other auxiliary staff members in order to provide patient-centered care that places an emphasis on the prudent and economical use of pharmaceuticals.
