What is the WellCare preferred pharmacy list for 2022?

The list of recommended pharmacies that Wellcare will be using in 2022 is not very long, but it does contain the CVS Caremark mail-order pharmacy. If you fill a prescription by using this service, you could be eligible for cost-sharing discounts that are more favorable than those offered by the insurance company.

When did WellCare start offering Medicare Advantage plans with prescription drug benefits?

The company’s history can be traced back to 1985, when it opened its doors in Tampa, Florida, to serve as a Medicaid provider for the state of Florida. The firm was ultimately acquired by Dr. Kiran Patel, an entrepreneur and cardiologist, in the year 1992.

Patel sold the company in 2002 to an investment consortium based in New York City that was run by George Soros and Todd Farha. Additionally in the year 2002, Todd Farha became the CEO of the firm. Through a process known as an initial public offering, the company went public in the year 2004. Following the passage of the Medicare Prescription Drug, Improvement, and Modernization Act in 2003 and its subsequent signing into law in 2006, WellCare started providing Medicare Advantage plans that included coverage for prescription drug costs in 2006.

In the same year (2006), WellCare first started providing Medicare Part D insurance.
