What does the term semi-monthly expense mean?
A semi-monthly pay plan is similar to a monthly pay schedule, however payments are often made twice each month, at the beginning and halfway of each month. Often, the ultimate consequence is less money in one month, but the money is distributed evenly among the four months of a quarter.
A semimonthly payroll is often paid on the 15th and final day of each month. If one of these pay days falls on a weekend, the payroll is distributed the Friday before. A biweekly paycheck is typically paid every other Friday.

The distinction is that full-time biweekly salaried employees will be compensated for 80 hours each pay period. Semimonthly full-time workers will earn 86.67 hours of pay every payday. The discrepancy in hourly rate is due to the different number of paychecks each employee will get. To calculate an employee’s biweekly compensation, divide 2,080 by 26 pay periods (every two weeks).2,080 must be divided by 24 pay periods for a semi-monthly employee (twice a month).
To get the compensation for either pay group, divide the yearly salary by the number of pay periods. Consider the following illustration to see how this may seem in practice: A worker makes $27,000 per year. If he or she is paid every other Friday, $26,000 divided by 26 is $1,000 each pay week.
